Thomas Love Peacock
18 October 1785 – 23 January 1866
An English satirical novelist and poet, and a close friend of Shelley. His comic novels of talk and ideas, among them Headlong Hall, Nightmare Abbey and Crotchet Castle, lampoon the enthusiasms of his contemporaries, the Romantic poets included. He spent almost forty years at the East India Company in London.
