Edward Granville Browne

An English orientalist, for many years Sir Thomas Adams’s Professor of Arabic at Cambridge. After a year’s travel in Persia in 1887–8 he devoted his life to Persian studies: the history of the Bábí and Bahá’í religions, the constitutional revolution, whose cause he championed in Britain, and his four-volume Literary History of Persia.
